Carry Ripple Release Show with candynavia and Hayley Mosenteen
First Congo
Memphis, Tennessee
I just gotta say, air conditioning is a beautiful thing.
It’s a hundred degrees in Memphis this week, but the second show at First Congo produced by Zach Mitchell and Isabelle Dillard was cool regardless. Celebrating the release of Carry Ripple’s second full-length album, Carry Ripple 2, Saturday evening was an exhibition of creative collaboration. Candynavia (Sophie Pedersen) performed solo and as part of the Carry Ripple band. Thomas Corbin served double duty in the band and as part of the projection mapping duo Infinity Stairs, providing the awe-inducing visual art accompanying the evening. I got to take photos at this show, but I also had the honor of pitching in on layout for the physical releases of the album, available on CD and cassettes released by MDR.
You can listen to Carry Ripple 2 on streaming and read more about the actual album through Zach’s beautiful writing over at the MDR Observer.
(Photo nerd note: Zach and I decided flash would ruin the overall vibe of the show, so this is maybe one of the darkest shows I’ve shot. Most of these photos were shot at 6000-12000 ISO so they’re pretty noisy and my lenses were having issues focusing so I had to do that manually, which I almost never do. I’m not sure if this is an excuse in case you think the photos are bad or a bit of a brag that I pushed through and actually got some shots I like.)
